You'll certainly get the most out of this beautiful corner of England. East Sussex offers diverse walking terrain from gentle walking along the coast and the Pevensey Levels, to the rolling hill country landscapes of the Weald and South Downs. This is home to the country's newest National Park and six miles of the coastline have been designated Heritage Coast.
From Herstmonceux, former home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory, we can make our way through the beautiful Sussex countryside, passing the remote village of Wartling and then following the coastline back to Cooden via some lovely sandy beaches.
We can start several walks in the famous town of Battle, where an Abbey built by William the Conqueror is located. One of these walks is a part of the 1066 walk, a route following that of the Norman army after landing at Pevensey.
From Guestling Green we can wend our way to the coast and continue along cliff-tops and coastal paths to Hastings Harbour. A highlight of this holiday would also be the walk from the ancient hillside carving of the 'Long Man of Wilmington' to Beachy Head, with spectacular cliff-top panoramas.
