St Cuthbert's Way: One week holidays departing on 10 April, 12 June, 10 July, 07 August and 11 September 2010
We'll be following 55 miles of the St Cuthbert's Way over five walks, stretching from Melrose in the Scottish Borders to Lindisfarne (Holy Island).
The route was inspired by the life of St Cuthbert; a 7th century Celtic saint, and this route passes through places associated with his life, following footpaths, tracks and quiet country lanes.
We can explore the abbey at Melrose before starting up to the pass between the Eildon Hills for wonderful views over the border country.
We continue along beautiful stretches of the Rivers Tweed and Teviot, and part of Roman Dere Street. Heading into the Cheviot Hills, we have panoramic views
of the Northumberland National Park.
Much of the walking is not too strenuous, however, the sections in the Eildon Hills and the Cheviots are more demanding. The Way finishes at Lindisfarne, cut off from the mainland at high tide, where we can visit the remains of the priory and castle and take in the atmosphere of this special place.
Northumberland's Heritage: Four or five night holidays departing 15 February, 24 May, 28 June and 16 August 2010
Also based at the Tankerville Arms Hotel, here's a chance to spend some days exploring the northeast's spectacular wild countryside and rich heritage on a series of unthemed walks with visits to sites of interest along the way.
Although not following the St Cuthbert's Way route, we can include walks taking in magnificent rugged coastal paths, golden sands and the dramatic ancient castles of Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh, inland there are the remarkable gardens at Alnwick Castle, Cragside or Howick Hall. And then there's the wilderness of the Cheviots and the Northumberland National Park to discover, perhaps with a taster taking in some of the best of St Cuthberts Way.
Deciding what to miss out will be a tough call; you might just have to come back to discover more!
