Our 7 night walking holiday is based at the Pandora Hotel in St Peter Port and enables us to discover the 'Bailiwick of Guernsey', which comprises the inhabited islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, Herm, Jethou, Brecqhou and Lihou. The islands lie in the Bay of St Malo and despite loyalty to the British crown since 1066, at only 8 miles from the French coast at their nearest point, they inevitably have a 'taste of France'. Our walking programme explores the dramatic coast and picturesque interior of Guernsey and some of the other islands of the Bailiwick. We walk some of the best stretches of the coast, with cliff-top paths and fine views out to sea.
Along the coast are many fascinating signs of Guernsey's history, from the WW2 defences built by the German occupiers to fortifications against Napoleon; right back to Megalithic tombs from 3000-2000BC. There are also artistic sites to see, such as Renoir's Viewpoint. Inland, Guernsey is criss-crossed with Green Lanes taking us through picturesque and varied countryside, some of which prohibits vehicles.
Sark is a short ferry ride away, where 'traffic' consists of tractors, horses and bicycles. Measuring only three miles by one and a half, yet with miles of coastline we'll also get the chance to sample the best this wonderful island has to offer.
