If you like to sing and have fun, then these holidays are not to be missed. Come and join us and relax in the company of old and new friends and beautiful surroundings. Whatever your musical ability you will enjoy these Singing for Pleasure holidays under the superb direction of experienced musical directors. For the 2011 season we feature both our usual accompanied short breaks and a new 'a cappella' programme. In both programmes, we'll join together to sing each morning and evening.
Accompanied singing under the direction of Penny Lazenby
Our original Singing for Pleasure programme - with our new conductor!
For our 2011 season, Penny Lazenby, former Director of Music at Watford Grammar School, takes over the baton as musical director following the retirement of Ken Rothery. With a wide variety of good music available we'll journey through a musical extravaganza including songs from the shows, oratorios, light opera and of course some of the great composers. Although not essential, being able to sight-read music would be an advantage. In 2011 these breaks are based in Matlock Bath in the Peak District and at Llandrindod Wells in the Welsh hills.
Unaccompanied a cappella singing under the direction of Candy Verney
Candy has founded five community choirs in Bath and West Wiltshire and now runs singing workshops around UK and in Europe. She has a reputation for getting everyone singing, for creating a rich musical experience with mixed ability groups. With an emphasis on singing for the sheer joy and fun of it, you will also be amazed at the quality of the sound we make together, as we travel through a range of musical cultures: World music, traditional folk, gospel and some contemporary songs. You don't need to read music, we will learn by ear. These new holidays are based at Llandrindod Wells in the Welsh hills or Matlock Bath in the Peak District.
