Ramblers Countrywide’s very own picturesque and secluded hideaway is located far from Lakeland’s tourist ‘honey pots’, in Buttermere in the Western Lake District. It is one of the most dramatic vantage points in the world and recognised as offering some of Britain's best views and walks.
A unique and secluded gem
Recently refurbished and beautifully situated in its own grounds, which lead directly to the lake, Hassness House offers a haven of tranquillity and the perfect starting point for a week of diverse and truly remarkable days out walking in the hills. The great thing about Hassness is the opportunity to get away from it all. There are no TVs or telephones in the rooms so enjoy the art of conversation and take time to appreciate the spectacular surroundings! Watch the sheep grazing the grounds, the red squirrels scurrying about and take pleasure in nature living right on your doorstep. You can also be sure of being well fed and looked after by your hosts Paula and Mickey in the informal atmosphere of this very special hotel. Accommodation is in twin and single rooms with hot and cold water and showers just down the hall.
Wonderful walking and hiking in the Lake District
Here, you are located away from the madding crowds, and the surrounding hills are generally less well stomped than the more readily accessible peaks. Many walks into the fells lead directly from the house, as does a walk around the lake, which takes about 3 hours. Further afield, there is an abundance of other wonderful walking opportunities.
And just a mile’s leisurely stroll takes you into Buttermere village, a tiny hamlet where you can stop for a drink or dinner at one of the two local pubs and take in the friendly atmosphere of one of the loveliest locations in Britain.
