Keep safe on holiday
Safety is always of paramount importance with every single Ramblers Countrywide Holiday we offer. Our staff are trained to deal with most eventualities but we always advise our customers to be ‘safety aware’ during their walking holiday.
Your health on holiday
It is advisable to take a small first-aid kit with you including a remedy for stomach upsets. If you are diabetic, or suffer from vertigo, heart problems, asthma, epilepsy or some other disability which you think we or your leader should know about, then please advise us in writing. If you have not done so already, please include such details when sending us your final payment so we can ensure that your leader is made aware of your condition. Your insurance company must also be made aware.
Potential hazards
Walking amongst mountains, hills and even around small towns and villages does involve an element of risk of which you should be aware. Weather can deteriorate in a matter of minutes, often quite unexpectedly, and may cause paths to become slippery and temperatures to drop dramatically.
Terrain underfoot may be different from that which you are used to; there may be loose ground, muddy paths, boggy moors, slippery tree roots and babbling brooks to cross. Many walkers now carry walking poles, which can assist balance, take the strain off your legs and help you over uneven terrain. Please take suitable footwear and outdoor clothing, and take note of our walking grades system to make sure you pick the holiday that’s right for you.
Your walking itinerary
Certain walks may be subject to variation or cancellation due to party size, staffing levels, weather or operational considerations. Although we will make every effort to provide all advertised aspects of your holiday, the final decision for any change rests with your Ramblers Countrywide Holidays leader.
Likewise we cannot be held responsible for disruption to itineraries arising from adverse weather conditions and other situations beyond our control, we will make every effort to provide equivalent alternative activities to ensure you have the best holiday possible.
You should expect to walk on icy or snowy terrain if the weather is cold, in wind and rain, and on muddy paths if it’s wet. A leader may refuse to take you on a walk if they feel that your clothing, footwear, ability or experience is unsuitable.
