There’s only one thing worse than making an insurance claim for some misfortune that may have occurred on holiday – and that’s not being able to make a reasonable claim because you’re not properly insured.
There is no need to compound the pain of a problem spoiling your holiday by being inadequately insured – especially when it can be easily avoided by payment of a reasonably small insurance premium. It also covers emergency repatriation, should it be deemed necessary.
In fact, it is so vital that we strongly recommend that you have proper travel insurance cover before you travel on one of our holidays. You could lose the whole cost of your holiday if a sudden illness (affecting you or another close family member), for example, prevents you at the last minute from travelling or face additional costs if your return home is delayed through illness or injury.
Travel insurance is essential for Cruise and Walk holidays and holidays visiting the Channel Islands. We strongly recommend it for holidays including air travel, as the NHS will not cover repatriation expenses.

What if I already have a travel policy?
If you do not wish to take advantage of our policy you must make this clear when you book your holiday and send us details of the alternative cover you have arranged by the time you pay the balance of your holiday. This must be at least as good as the policy we recommend and include cover for search, rescue and recovery – a feature necessary for all holidays where emergency service vehicles may have access difficulties.

Why choose the Ramblers Countrywide Holidays’ Insurance policy?
We take the issue of insurance so seriously that we have arranged a policy specifically designed to protect you and your holiday with us. This has been developed in conjunction with Fortis Insurance Ltd, a leading travel insurer. Full details of the premiums and a summary of the cover provided are given below and a copy of the policy is available on request.
You must disclose any pre-existing medical conditions at the time of booking and ensure you comply with the health requirements of the policy. If you are in doubt, please contact the Insurer’s medical screening department, Fortis Health Line on 0845 168 5682 who will be pleased to help. (Please note that should you contact the medical screening line you may be asked standard questions relating to your fitness rather than those which may be expected in the context of a walking holiday.)
-
It has been ‘tailor-made’ by Fortis Insurance Ltd to match the type of holidays that we organise giving you peace of mind that the cover provided is appropriate for the holiday. For example, we have a special type of cover ‘inability to walk’ if an injury interrupts your walking holiday.
-
Our policies are provided by fully authorised FSA suppliers who specialise in travel insurance, so you can be sure of the services offered in the event of a claim. We also have ABTA accredited staff in our office who can give a certain level of advice.
-
Our holiday leaders are aware of the procedures for dealing with the emergency assistance organisation used by our insurers.
-
24-hour medical emergency service provided by Assistance International.
The Insurers would like to draw your attention to the important features of the insurance, which can be summarised as follows:
- Policy document - A copy of the policy will be sent with your booking confirmation. This document contains full details of what is and what is not covered and the conditions of the cover. You should read this carefully.
- Conditions, exclusions & warranties - There are conditions and exclusions which apply to individual sections while general exclusions, conditions and warranties will apply to the whole of the policy.
- Health - The policy contains restrictions regarding pre-existing medical problems concerning the health of the people travelling and of other people upon whose health the holiday may depend – even if they are not travelling.
- Property Claims - These claims are based on the value of goods at the time you lose them and not on a new for old or replacement cost basis.
- Limits - Most sections of the policy have limits on the amount that will be paid under that section. Some sections also include other specific limits, for example, for any one item or valuables in total. You are advised to check the policy if you intend to take expensive items with you.
- Policy Excesses - Under most sections of the policy, claims will be subject to an excess. This means the first part of the claim will not be paid.
- Reasonable Care - You will need to take all reasonable care to protect yourself and your property, as you would if you were not insured.
- Complaints - The insurance policy contains a complaints procedure which tells you what steps you can take if you wish to make a complaint. The policy is governed by English Law unless you and the insurers have agreed otherwise.
- 'Cooling Off’ Period - The policy contains a 14-day cooling off period during which you can return the policy and obtain a refund. Our insurance is only available for UK residents.
